A telephone mast in the wilds of Scotland? No problem.

The Challenge

A contractor accidentally cut through a telephone mast cable in a very remote Scottish location. Up a steep, narrow track and with heavy snow falling, restoring power was not going to be a straightforward job. Our customer knew they could rely on us, as we’d helped with a number of previous emergency situations and were one of very few companies with the specialist vehicles the job required.

The Solution

An engineer from our Shotts depot assessed the situation the same day and established that the closest we could possibly get a generator was 250 metres from the site. We then used one of our specialist 4×4 Hiab vehicles to take a 20 kVA generator to the site and equipped it with a pre-measured cable which we ran up the steep track to the site. A specialist driver, electrician and engineer were on site all day. Plus we had to liaise with the Scottish Forestry Commission to get the relevant approvals we needed to get the job done.
