The Challenge
The initial fault on site was the failure of an 11,000 volt cable adjacent to a distribution substation. The fault then operated upstream system protection and interrupted supply to the primary substation in Redcar.
The fault caused an underground HV cable outside of the substation to explode, with flames escaping from the ground in a residential area (with emergency services and the general public in close proximity).
More than 25,000 customers were left without electricity and, with media attention growing quickly, our customer needed to restore power as swiftly as possible.
The Solution
The local Distribution Network Operator were able to restore power to approximately 22,000 of their customers, but that still left around 3,500 needing temporary power generators to restore electricity.
Generator Power reacted quickly to the request, supplying 12 generators, ranging in size from 18kVA towables to 1250kVA trailer sets to support the incident, working alongside our customer throughout the night to help restore power.
