The Customer-Led Network Revolution (CLNR) released some interesting data recently. They have been monitoring domestic and business customers for a 2-year period, analysing electric consumption using smart meters as part of the project.
Have you heard about SMART meters?
They’re being rolled out to businesses and domestic dwellings over the course of the next year. The CLNR project used information supplied my home metering systems. Many of the participants had energy-saving measures in place such as solar panels, heat pumps and electric charge points for cars, their energy usage was carefully analysed in a bid to track patterns and trends.
The aim of the scheme was to research current and emerging energy loads as well as trying to predict possible electric loads in the future.
SMART meters are set to raise awareness of energy consumption within the home and when you read a little more about them the advantages become all too clear.
What is SMART technology?
By the end of 2015 the government plans to roll out smart meters to UK households, their aim is to have a meter in place in every single household by the end of 2020.
This is good news for the domestic household. A smart meter is a wireless box that sends details of energy usage straight back to your utility provider. Not only that, it empowers you with details of electric usage within the home, you see the key areas where power is being consumed and can take action to reduce the demand on the national grid.
Smart meters use a traffic light system. Green areas indicate low energy areas, when the meter turns red it tells you where electric is being wasted. And they give you a digital breakdown on energy spend. Key features of smart meters
