The end of 2015 saw what was recorded as the wettest month in British history with widespread flooding causing damage and destruction throughout the UK, in particular the north of England and parts of Scotland and Wales.
The town of Mytholmroyd in West Yorkshire was left devastated with homes, businesses and buildings left to struggle with the huge clean up following the heavy flooding over Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Left with nothing
The local charity Mytholmroyd Playgroup and Toddlers, who provided child care to families for children aged 0-11 years old, was included in this struggle.
Their building, including all of their possessions, was immersed in under 5ft5 of water, raw sewage and petrol. All of the charity’s resources, outdoor equipment, toys, games, books, record books, children’s learning journeys, and office equipment were ruined and had to be disposed of. They were left with nothing.
Help at hand
Fortunately, the generous local community came together and donated enough equipment to get the company up and running again. They were lucky enough to find temporary accommodation until the 15th January, and after this time were donated portacabins with water supply and toilet facilities.
That’s when Generator Power received their request. Mytholmroyd Playgroup and Toddlers needed electricity in their new home and we were quick to respond.
We donated the 40KVA generator, four 32 amp leads, one 16 amp lead, distribution board and fuel tank that they needed to help the local child care company get back on their feet.
Generator Power wish them the very best, and we commemorate their successful endeavors to keeping the much-loved company going, despite such a hard time. The community effort here was truly inspiring, and we’re very proud to have been a part of this.
